Spring Break

We had a really bad start to our Spring Break. The girls were supposed to go with friends for a birthday celebration at Sea World while Christian and I stayed home and packed for our big upcoming trip to Yosemite. When the girls got home that night, they were supposed to take a shower, take a nap and then we would all get up in the wee hours of the morning and hit the road.

Instead, on Friday after school let out, the girls did their chores and packed their clothes and things for Yosemite...all went according to plan. We watched a movie and went to bed. Caitlyn had a bit of a stomach ache by the time she went to bed. She woke up at 2:30 am with the stomach flu. Is was coming out of both ends until she had nothing left in her bowels...still, she threw up water and stomach acids every couple of hours. We put on calming movies for her. Christian stayed out with her and I returned to bed.

Morning came and she was still just as sick and had barely slept. Christian was napping. I got Emily ready to go and she took off to Sea World without her sister.
Caitlyn would later be totally devastated by what she missed but was too out of it at the time to care about anything except the constant pain in her abdomen and fatigue. We told her that we would try to make up for it some how but we will be hard pressed to figure out how.

Christian tried to keep busy working on my truck while I sat with Caitlyn. We tried reading to her, more movies, we even let her sit and play video games but she could not concentrate enough to play. After a while, she just sat there staring at the screen. After she got sick again, I started playing for her for something for her to watch. She seemed to slip in and out of consciousness. It was bad.

All our grand plans were up in smoke. We were pretty upset ourselves. When Emily came home that night, Caitlyn got a blessing. She got sick a couple of more times and opted to stay out in the living room again. I put on a PBS special on history for her to zone out on. The cartoon movies kept her too interested to watch. She finally fell asleep and got the most sleep she has had in quite a while. We had  some hope that the tide was turning on her sickness but then she got sick a couple of more times.

After that, she was able to keep a little bit of fluid down and even have a few mouthfuls of food. Her sister kept her entertained with stories of her day at Sea World and toys. Caitlyn had hardly spoke the previous day and was a little more sociable so we knew that she was improving. She slept all night in her own bed that night.

The next day, we spent having her rest still and try to get her appetite and strength back. She was somewhat hungry but too afraid to eat still. She did not get sick anymore though but was still a little weak and managed to get in a pretty good nap during the late afternoon.

Christian spent his time working on our broken garage opener. It stopped working all of a sudden last week and he finally had to break down and get a new one.

Day four, we spent trying to get Caitlyn to eat normally. Her stomach had shrunk considerably. She is such a skinny little thing to begin with. At some point, we got her to get dressed to go on a walk. She thought that she accidentally put on her sister's shirt (which has an identical design as her own) because it hung off of her. After our walk. she took it off and looked at it, only to find out that it was indeed her own shirt she had on.

We had to decide if we would proceed with our trip or not. If we did not leave soon, it would not be worthwhile to go at all because of the great distance and investment in gas. We decided to go for it and had to reorganize a few of our supplies as we no longer needed as much since we would not be out very long.
