Missionaries...

Have you had the missionaries over to your house?

Caitlyn has the Fisher Price Little People neighborhood and Christian found these mini "missionaries" at the Ensign book store for her.

She has named them Elder Hatch and Elder Perry...although they were never partnered up together. Can you tell which is which?


This way she can have them over for dinners and lessons.

Caitlyn's Sassy new hairdoo

Okay, this is a little late but I decided to post this one too so Caitlyn isn't left out.

On August 10th, we finally decided to give Caitlyn her first hair cut. She's been wanting to get a haircut for a while, since she has watched her sister get her hair trimmed (mostly to even it out since she took a pair of scissors to it, but that's another story) and she's watched her Dad get haircuts as well. But it took so long for her thin little hair to fill out that we didn't have the heart to cut it. But I wanted a nice long lock of her baby hair to keep for the keepsake box I've been meaning to make and decided to cut it short.

So, to squelch the rumors, we did not have to cut Caitlyn's hair because her sister gave her a haircut...it was just time. Does she like it? What do you think?

Emily's First Day of School

Emily and I have both been waiting for the past two years for her first day of school to begin. I thought I would be dancing and celebrating in the streets after I dropped her off for her first day of school. But as the time neared, I hadn't even registered her. About a month before school started, I finally dragged my butt into the central registration center to get her paperwork started. I had to scramble to take her to her doctor to get shots and her dentist for her first checkup. I finally got all our papers in order and her name in the system about two weeks before the start of school.

All the while, thinking that maybe homeschooling would be a better way to go... But Emily was still super excited. So, I couldn't really dissappoint her. It took us nearly an hour to get her settled in her class and pry ourselves away from the room. She was a little shy but happy with the whole idea of going to school and getting away from home...experiencing a whole new world. Even as a baby we kind of thought that she was too eager to grow up too fast. Her teeth started burting forth shortly after starting her first solid food. I think she was 5 1/2 months old. She started walking at 9 1/2 months. *sniff* Better stop waxing nostalgic. They just grow up so fast. Maybe I should not let her nap so much and stop feeding her....


Well, it took me nearly an hour to wait in the many lines to pick her up again in the sweltering heat of Riverside and then to wait in more lines to drive out of the parking lot. She had a lot of fun and made new friends but when asked about what she learned today, she shrugged her shoulders and said, "I don't know." I asked what they did in class and she said that they were doing the alphabet, "...but I already knew all that, mom."

So, someone please remind me why I am carting her back and forth, stressing out over pack lunches and clean clothes? Kindergarten is half day. 40 minutes of that is spent at lunch plus another 15 or 20 minutes of recess. Geez, I hope they were just trying to get the gist of where all the kids are in their learning process, otherwise I may have to seriously rethink this whole homeschooling idea!
