More on Spring Break

Spring break started out unbelievably well. The kids were great. We went to the mountains. I took the girls to see Miyazaki's newest film, "The Secret World of Arrietty" and the girls took turns spending a few hours going to work with Dad.

We also had some fun Easter treats. They had a couple of different Easter Egg hunts. The first was courtesy of Auntie Marian.
It was made even more awesome by the fact that there was no candy in the eggs. They got a bunch of cute trinkets. Although there was a little bit of fruit snacks and some coupons to go get treats somewhere. But I have to say that their favorite was the Only Hearts Club mini bunnies.
They also had an egg hunt with a bunch of friends at the Deans'. They did get candy there but Emily was really good about not getting too many and only getting the hardest to get eggs. They have the Easter Egg hunt every year and it has grown so big. There are so many different kids of all ages so they had them separated in three different groups. The littlest going first to get a head start on the easiest eggs. Caitlyn was in the second group and Emily was part of the last group. I think it worked out pretty well. They filled 1,000 plastic eggs for the event!
Of course, they also went on their horse riding lesson over the break. Plus we intended to do some food storage things over the break. So we pulled all our stuff out and made an inventory. We found out that the FDA will no longer let us go to the food storage facility to can as of this year. That threw a wrench in our plans as not all the items available are available pre-canned. You have to get it all in bulk and do it yourself now. But you don't necessarily want 9 cans of onions or apples or whatever at a time. Plus the fact that it is very expensive to get that much at once.

Christian did take a few days off to spend with us but he ended up spending a lot of that time working on his Easter talk.

Towards the end of the week, everything started slowly falling apart. The girls started getting lazy and fighting more. Christian and I started getting sick and less patient. They got to play with the neighbor kids a little bit. And we still managed to do a little cookie decorating.
Lastly, the girls got even more Easter stuff from Auntie Marian....with some Easter treats for us as well.
(See, I ended up giving it to them after all!)

That was our week...and a very long one too. I am happy we are back to our schedule. I don't know how homeschooling moms do it.
